Introduction to Agriculture

This introductory course provides an opportunity for students to learn how the agricultural industry is organized; its major components; the economic influence of agriculture at state, national and international levels; and the scope and types of job opportunities in the agricultural field. Both agribusiness and production applications are presented. Basic concepts in animal science, plant science, soil science, horticulture, agricultural resources, agribusiness management and agricultural mechanics are included. Additionally, the student will be made aware of the opportunities for leadership development, awards, and scholarships through active participation in the FFA. Students will be required to start a record keeping program as discussed in the class. Microcomputer applications are introduced.
